How Anime Inspires My Approach to Marketing: Marketing Moonie’s Journey

Meet My Marketing Moonie Yaps

Marketing Moonie Yaps welcome banner featuring a Sailor Moon-inspired design with a dark blue background, starry accents, and pink and yellow text. The main text reads 'Welcome to My Marketing Moonie Yaps.' The center showcases an image of Usagi Tsukino running with her school bag. Surrounding her are five circular images with a glowing pink border, featuring Jade, the Marketing Moonie in various professional and personal moments: standing in front of a company sign, celebrating graduation, holding a drink while smiling, participating in a professional photoshoot, and presenting a certificate. A small logo in the top right corner represents Marketing Moonie. The banner includes a text bubble with 'Who is she? What’s she about?

Marketing Moonie, here! I’ve got some big news to share, but first, let me tell you a little bit about me and what makes me tick.

How I Fell in Love with Anime

I’m a social media marketer, and my biggest source of inspiration is anime — more specifically Sailor Moon. Although I grew up watching Sailor Moon as a little girl, it all really started back in sixth grade when my best friend at the time handed me a volume of a boy love manga, Junjo Romantica. Shocked by the genre? I was, too, but from there I was hooked.

I nursed my love for anime watching Soul Eater and Mermaid Melody on YouTube (remember those Naruto AMV’s with Evanescence covers?) and reading manga on the Manga Reader app on my iPod Touch.

Fun fact: I even convinced my teacher to let me count manga for SSR (sustained silent reading) in class. I’ve been an advocate for weebs since 2009!

Two Worlds Collide

As my love for anime grew, so did my interest in how stories are told. I carried that passion for storytelling with me through my six years of higher education, earning two communications degrees along the way.

Somewhere in that journey, I realized something: the way anime connects with people through stories is exactly how I wanted to help brands connect with their audiences.

What I love most about anime isn’t just the stunning art and animation or the amazing voice acting (I love you, Kenjiro Tsuda!) — it’s how the stories make you feel. Anime has this way of making you think about who you are and what really matters to you. And that’s what I aim to bring to the table for my clients along with my over six years of experience in marketing for small, unicorn companies: storytelling that feels real and makes an impact.

Why I Do What I Do
